One of my favorite nights I had in Hamamatsu was the night we visited some close friends of Otou-san and Okaa-san for a barbecue. I really enjoyed those people, they were very sweet and very eager to learn. It was kind of funny, because the parents were always trying to get their son to practice English with me, but ended up practicing with me themselves. I was really honored one night not long after this when the son came over for a sleepover - before the sleepover was allowed to start, Okaa-san and her friend asked me if I could please give the boys, all the boys, an English lesson. Of course the moms were more into it than the boys and it was a challenge to keep three boys interested in practicing their English homework so they could play their video games but it was such an honor.
But anyway! So the night was so much fun, one of their neighbors made a pizza for me because she thought I might be homesick, which was fantastic, and then there were the fish. The fish still had their eyes in them. They were looking at me. And I had to fight so hard, politely of course, with Obaa-chan to not eat them because I'm sorry, but I can't eat food when it's looking at me. I just can't. Also, I'm not too down with eating heads, fins, and tails either. But it was all made well when they brought out their kakigori (shaved ice) machine and we got to make our own kakigori which, with three boys and one father who absolutely never grew up, it quickly led to an ice fight. Hehe. :) After ice fighting the real fun began when we brought out "the goods". Which happened to be about five huge packages of fireworks. We then proceeded to burn them all until the entire street was choked with white smoke and sparkler light and the road was covered with firework graffiti.
